DO What You Don't ENJOY First!
Jul 16, 2018Everyone knows this. It’s one of the first things most productivity experts will tell you. Get that thing that you don’t enjoy out of the way in the first half of your day. Doing 5 small things that give you a quick win doesn’t help if the ONE BIG thing you DON’T ENJOY remains undone. The psychology of small wins doesn't overwrite the fact that if you've put off the thing you hate doing. When you put it off;
- That task looms over you.
- You experience unnecessary anxiety.
- Some of the last things you do will impact how you “feel” the day went.
Don’t push it off anymore.
- Do that budget report
- Clean out your office
- Go through your JUNK MAIL
- Write those 5 emails you’ve been putting off
- Schedule that staff review that you know will have confrontation
- Schedule your next board meeting, just get it on the books
- Review your BHAG’s list to be honest about where you are
- FINISH that report, study, spreadsheet, etc
- START that review, process, data gathering, or that project you WANT to see happen
Then, make the stuff you ENJOY happen through the day AND as often as you can - END ON A HIGH NOTE! Whatever you enjoy most, as often as you can, make it one of your last meetings, projects, phone calls, tasks. This rhythm will help you feel like everyday was PRODUCTIVE and YOU ENJOYED IT! - Your Biggest Fan!
